5 Important Tips For Visiting Mekong Delta

Mekong Delta is a paradise of greenery, floating markets, villages, and beautiful scenery. If you loved the sight of it in pictures, imagine how much you would love it when you plan your trip to visit. Here are some of the tips for visiting the Mekong Delta.

1. Best Time to Visit Mekong Delta?

Mekong Delta is a pleasant place to visit with all four seasons and every season having a unique gift to offer. Whatever season you go in, you will definitely enjoy.

Between the months of April and June, there is light rain which takes away the heat and makes the weather enjoyable for the tourists. You can easily shop for hours without the heat driving you crazy. At this time, it will be a beautiful sight to see the gardens and the rivers. Moreover, festivals like Cholchonam Thomay (Khmer’s New Year) and the Crop Season Opening Festival also take place between these months.

If you love tropical fruits then the best time to visit is between June and September when there will be a lot of rain. The weather will though be humid and hot which will make tourism a little hard to bear.

If you are looking forward to the floating markets then do not go between October and November because these are the flooding months. Though you will still enjoy other activities like fishing.

If you are a photographer or a scenic lover then don’t miss the beautiful sight of Mekong Delta in the months of December to May. The sea, greenery and the blue clear sky are a sight to capture.

2. Packing Tips

The heat and the humidity of Mekong Delta are such that pack lightly and take comfortable summer clothes with you. A sunscreen and a raincoat are must for the warm and the rainy times. Pack a water bottle with you that you should keep with you all the time so that you remain hydrated. Also, due to the variety of local cuisine, it is difficult to refuse the specialties here. However, you need to prepare for the case that your digestive system cannot tolerate all the dishes. I advise you to bring some gastrointestinal medication for the trip.

3. Precautions to Take

It will be advisable that you drink only bottles safe water and stay away from the river water if you are wounded in any way. The river water has parasites or worms which will cause harm if you are already wounded and bleeding. Bring good mosquito and insect repellents with you so that you are safe from Malaria and Dengue. Also, keep your windows closed wherever you’re staying to be safe from mosquitos.

4. Tips for Traveling

If you want to make sure that you visit every place in Mekong Delta and don’t miss out on anything then take organized tours with either a group or a private tourism organization. It depends on you what number of days you choose but an organized excursion will make sure that you don’t have to worry about planning and transport or even the food places. Your tourist guide will include everything in your Mekong Delta package. You wouldn’t even have to worry about when the floating market would be open or not.

5. Beware of your clothes

Featuring a waterfront location, traditional boats are the main means of transportation here. So, when traveling to the Delta you should dress comfortably so that you can move easily between the boats. Avoid cumbersome dress. Long dresses, expensive shoes or professional cameras should not be on your to-wear list. Keep it as simple as you can!
